when bad locations happen to good trees

Enter: Angry Rant

We were truly blessed when we bought our home to have a well established garden, but...

I am so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, SOOOOOOOOOO angry at the previous owners for their lack of foresight when planting trees oh so very close to the house!

I am angry about this because

  1. The gutters fill with leaves faaaaaaaaar too quickly for us to keep up
  2. Possums and rodents use the branches to climb onto the house and into our roof cavity
  3. The trees always need pruning (and then they just grow back anyway)
  4. It's a waste of a good tree
Over the next six months I'll be cutting some of these poor trees down, because their location just isn't practical (or safe, living so close to land with a reputation for bush fires). We'll eventually need to get advice from a professional on others, particularly this huge gum which has already broken many a roof tile with fallen branches.

You know the scene from Julie & Julia where Julie is trying to cook live lobsters and all she can think is "Lobster killer... Lobster killer"? Well that's how I'm feeling. Man, I am pissed at the previous owners.
