What a lovely mini-break...

As I mentioned in my last post, Kym and I decided we needed to get away from the hustles and bustles of life and spend some time in the country. My generous aunt & uncle kindly gave us the keys to their holiday house in Port Elliot and off we went late Thursday night.

I'd like to tell you I spent the weekend perusing second-hand book stores and antique shops (in between long walks on the beach). What I actually did was a lot of reading, watching old movies (including the 1980's classic, Weird Science) and crocheting. Not to mention drinking my weight in tea. Kym watched documentaries in their dining room, in his chair-with-a-view, while I settled in the lounge downstairs and watched over the garden. Not the most romantic or adventurous weekend, just what we were looking for. Quiet.

I love staying in this house. You can hear the waves crashing while you sleep at night. To the east is a view of the mountains, to the left a view of the ocean. The house itself exudes comfort. It's filled with the furniture my aunt and uncle have had for years, so it never feels like you've intruded. I adore the wood paneled and wallpapered walls and coloured floors. It reminds me of my childhood... probably because it is.

One of the films I watched was "Phoebe in Wonderland", about a families working through the active imagination and struggles of one of the daughters. It was absolutely beautiful and I would recommend it to anyone wanting an insight into family relationships and willing to cry. And cry. And cry.

On the way home we stopped by a friend's for brunch. Oh brunch. It was the perfect way to finish our weekend: with croissants, pancakes and conversation. (Thanks Leeanne & Joel xx)

Here's a couple of pics to show you the many surfaces and memories this house holds:

How was your weekend?

  6. My belated answer:
I am pleased you had a lovely relaxing weekend away! How do you always manage to make everything look so good! You have a great imagination I would have never have thought of taking lil pics of surfaces... Ahhh listening to the waves at night - this I do miss about our old Seacliff unit.
My weekend? hmmm lets remember? ahhh yes I went to art class on Saturday and started a painting, did some housework, cooked a late roast whilst working on my painting and waiting for Mick to get home from work, ate dinner at 10pm when he did finally arrive home, got up early Sunday morning and finished my painting then off to work for a little Teen Art exhibition.. Busy but happy I got to do some painting and it all revolved around art in some way.
