scent sense: what's in a fragrance?

People & Earth Friendly Fragrance Pillows from Pom by Pomegranate.
Scented with organic lavender, rosemary and cloves. Available on etsy. YUM.

The Scent Sense website was created as a go-to for consumers to find out about the ingredients and risks associated with the fragrances they use. Before the late nineteenth century, fragrances and perfumes were made from rose petals and other natural ingredients. Now they are close to 100% artificial, the ingredients of which are often left unnamed on packaging, including those which are harmful to the body. We're not just talking perfume for the body (perfume, soaps, cleansers, toothpaste), by the way, we're also talking fragrances in the home (cleaners, bin bags, cards, pens, dishcloths).

Scent Sense is a great place to start if you're wanting to find out more about the ingredients in what you use. It's presented very objectively, without making HUGE sweeping generalisations or unproven claims (this is something that stops me from really believing a number of other websites, which tend to come across as fanatical and out of touch).

Head over to Scent Sense by clicking hereIt's a great way to start looking at the products you use to make for a healthier body and home. Another step is buying from makers (such as Pom by Pomegranate, above) and supporting business that uses ethical and safe ingredients and production processes.
